This transit, modified by A.N. Brunson to operate in the extreme cold, accompanied Admiral Richard Byrd to the South Pole during his 1939 expedition.  Thanks to Mr. Brunson's engineering, we received a telegram back from the explorer indicating that this transit worked perfectly while others froze up.  The transit was used to establish the layout for Little America in the Antarctic.
